“Wombs”
at ‘A Chimaera of Desires’ Residency & Exhibition
'A Chimaera of Desires' aimed to explore sexuality through the lens of collectivity. By collaborating closely with other artists, we wanted to create a 'Chimaera'—a mythical Greek creature, a hybrid entity composed of different parts—of differing perspectives, approaches, and currents in conversation. The residency began on May 7th and concluded with an exhibition at Romantso from May 22nd to 26th, 2024.
Materials: Shamua paper, natural earth pigments, water, oxgall, pine turpentine oil, CMC.
I participated in the residency program, which included collective exercises, planning, designing, and installation. By being present at the exhibition every day, I also became part of the living exhibition. I taught ebru art to other artists at the residency. Additionally, I designed a space within the exhibition that included wombs and a living ebru installation.
Wombs: "Wet wombs waiting for new possibilities. Homes, desires, new beginnings, safe spaces, a longing to return. We ventured out, knowing they were there, but they seemed like alien worlds. They change, bleed, transform, and die. They are not in control, just like the spaces we live in. In the transition of life, we watch them like we watch stars, trying to reach them, fill them, or escape from them."
