About
Ecem Dalgakıranlar is a migrant, multidisciplinary visual artist and activist. Originally from Istanbul with Cypriot roots, they now live in Athens. They hold a BA in Prehistoric Archaeology from Istanbul University.
They are a member of the Athens Museum of Queer Arts (AMOQA) and are currently studying cinematography at ReFOCUS Media Labs Athens on a scholarship.
They enjoy blending tradition, history, activism, video games, and animation. They like emotions, cuteness, and anti-colonial queer practices. Like all Istanbulites, they feel at the intersection of East and West; as a Cypriot, feeling non-binary between nation states. For them, art is a playground that helps connect with their roots, childhood, and heal their wounds.
They do ebru, a Sufi art practice that goes back to Central Asian Shamanism. They have an ongoing project, Kuirnâme, reclaiming queer Ottoman history. Now they are working on their dream diaries and a documentary project.
